CityCenter ARIA Opens

I just got back from ARIA and have a load of photos to process. All I can say is WOW, what a great resort. This is the first time I was not underwhelmed by a new property. Stay tuned....

We went by Aria yesterday afternoon (it opened just before midnight) and it was packed with people. The Planet Hollywood across the street was nearly empty. I am sure that 5 years ago when this construction started, everyone believed that there was plenty of room for another resort/casino. Today, I am not sure that this is the case. Several casinos are shutting down rooms and/or entire towers for lack of customers.
I wish everyone the very best but we may have reached a saturation point where anything new is just sucking business from something old.
The Aria complex is stunningly beautiful both inside and out but the casino is quite dark. You get used to it after awhile but it is clearly a throw-back to the older days of casino twilight lighting and may still take a test of time to see whether that's good or bad.
The only real "miss" that I have seen for the complex as a whole is the shopping area. There is nothing but extremely high end shops (and not many of them) spread out over a very poorly planned (but beautiful) space. The MGM mono-rail stops here (Bellagio, Crystals, Monte Carlo) and after a couple of escalator rides you can get to a place that will get you to Aria and you can marvel at all the stuff you would never want.
