New Photos and Pages for Smith and Ruvo

I created two new pages on the site, one for the Ruvo Center for Brain Health and one for The Smith Center for the Preforming Arts

These were just blurbs on the Symphony Park page and deserve their own pages. I also updated the construction photos for both projects.

I don't think I want my brain worked on in a building that looks like it fell down..

It's amazing how much the Smith Center lobby looks like the lobby of Lyric Opera House in Chicago.

Both of these facilities will have a huge and positive impact on downtown Las Vegas.

I'm loving both. Hopefully Symphony Park will exceed the expectations set for it which are already high. I know it's just office buildings, but any chance of getting a "Public Buildings" page with updates of things like the new City Hall and Metro's new HQ?

There are few building designs that one could argue 'don't fit' in Las Vegas but the Smith Center is about as close as they come. It's the equivalent of the stuffy accountant that comes to the party and can't loosen up (no offense accountants). Not surprising coming from the uppity east coast David Schwarz group.

Let's hope it function better than it looks or I say we banish it to the island of snobby university campus buildings where it belongs.

Gehry buildings always look broken or like concrete and metal piles of trash. Unfortunately, because of the strange angles and leanings, these buildings are much more expensive to build and interior space is compromised for the wow outside.

The Smith Center is a terrible building. What does this design say about the nuances of the site, city, region? It is an art-deco-esque design dropped in the middle of our downtown. It is a shame.

Some people claim Vegas tries too hard...I say, this isn't trying hard enough. How about some materials and aesthetic alignment with the environment? How about an architectural expression that isn't locked into a past style.

I'm happy to see the level of interest and development going on and yet to come in this absolutely UNIQUE place / opportunity that IS downtown Las Vegas. But the Smith Center succeeds only as a confidence builder in the viability of downtown development and to illustrate the city's commitment to downtown expansion. It fails architecturally. Which is sad - as our civic works should be cherished and tied to a true sense of place that helps define our past, present and future.
